Barbara Deutsch has spent nearly her entire career in Jewish education. She taught history at the Yeshivah of Flatbush Middle School, and then became the Middle School’s Dean of Students. She was named founding Principal of the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy Middle School in Livingston, New Jersey in 2001, and served innovatively and with distinction there for eight years. The 120 mile round trip daily commute began to take its toll, and in 2009 she joined the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County to serve as Associate Principal of the West Hempstead Samuel & Elizabeth Bass Golding Elementary School. In addition, for fourteen summers, Barbara headed a staff development program—Machon—at Camp Morasha where she trained future leaders. Many HANC parents are alumni of this program and can attest to Barbara’s outstanding rapport with her charges, her staff, and her colleagues. In her administrative capacity, Mrs. Deutsch has trained several current educational leaders who are serving in Jewish institutions throughout the country—in Los Angeles, Chicago, Teaneck, Livingston, and Riverdale—and she is a sought after educational consultant with expertise in student learning and behavioral issues (ADD, ADHD, PDD, focusing, etc.). A product of Bais Yaakov, the Esther Schoenfeld Yeshiva High School for Girls, and CUNY, Mrs. Deutsch possesses an Advanced Certificate in Administration and Supervision and has twice participated at the Harvard University Principal Center, and has spent a summer training at the Lookstein Principal Center in Israel. She is also a coach at Hidden Sparks, “a non profit fund whose purpose is to help children with learning difficulties reach their full potential in school and life.” Barbara and her husband Bob have three children and fourteen grandchildren(one great grandchild)four of whom live in Woodmere, four in Toronto, and six in Jerusalem.
